France: Tanger dress and Nubian Gown

Tanger dress:

In 1920 a French designer Paul Poiret created a womens’ dress called Tanger. It’s closely based on Aknif which is a style of man’s cloak from Marocco.

Nubian dress:

Nubian is an evening gown created by Paul Poiret in 1924. The style was influenced by Africa. The name of the dress resonates with the distant and the exotic. Nubia refers to a region  and ethnic group in southern Egypt, northern Sudan, and also to an ancient kingdom in the same region.
